You can have a typical visitation and memorial before or after the cremation!. If you have a memorial service before the cremation, you can have open or closed casket!. If after the cremation, then the container with the cremains are usually placed on a small stand!.

Once the person is cremated, the cremains can be buried in a cemetery, with or without a marker or tombstone, put into a mausoleum or kept by the deceased's loved ones!.

I have been to several services where the person was cremated and have seen it done all ways!. Talk to your funeral director for more information on cost!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My stepfather and my mother both chose to be cremated!. In both cases, the funeral services were very similar to those of other family members who were not, the main difference being that rather than interment following the service, the ashes were placed in the cemetery plot some time later, with just close family attending!. The plot is marked by a bronze plaque with a retractable urn for flowers!. My stepfather's mother died in Berlin and was cremated!. Her ashes were scattered in the Field of Flowers there, a beautiful garden maintained for that purpose!. My friend scattered her husband's cremains at his favourite fishing spot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's entirely up to the person making the arrangements!. Of people I've known to be cremated:
My grandparents didn't want a service so they never had one!. My sister had a full funeral and burial at sea!.
One family member was cremated and placed in a burial wall that comes with a marker!.
Another friend had a marker placed on a park bench!.

Some people opt for any combination of nothing, memorial services, wakes, and/or funerals!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

when my aunt died she was cremated and they had a ceremony at the place that she wanted her ashes scattered!. It all depends on what they wanted!. They can give you a full ceremony like they did with my great grandma she was cremated and buried, on the family burial plot!. So as I said it all depends on what the family wants!. Yo could also have a tombstone as well if they wanted to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
