Goldburg is probably a name associated with being Jewish, Jews aren't always looked upon favorably by other members of the community, so they change their name to something that has less negative connotations!. My own grandfather changed his name in the 1950s because having a Jewish sounding name was making it more difficult for him to find work!.

Sometimes people announced in the paper that they were changing their name like here in the London Gazette for example!.
