Position:Home>Genealogy> How to change the spelling of my son's middle name?

Question: How to change the spelling of my son's middle name!?
Ok, my son was born almost 4 years ago and when I named him I wanted him to have an Irish/Gaelic name because of my mostly Irish background!. At the time I was doing a lot of looking into my family tree and stuff like that!. Well, I decided on the first name Aiden, which I love and he has two middle names (Mikael and Christopher) and I was misinformed that Mikael was the irish spelling for Michael and when I have been recently researching the meanings for his name I have found that according to 3 separate websites Mikael is Sweedish and Micheal is the Gaelic spelling!. Is there any inexpensive way to just change the spelling!? I don't wanna change his name, just the spelling!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I used to be a medical records manager at a large hospital in Chicago!. The reality is that whatever you wrote on the application is what's legal!. If they mistyped it then you could have changed it!. But once you signed it and the hospital filed it, the document is legal and binding forever unless you can prove a factual error or pay to legally amend the certificate with a change of name!. They won't change spellings, though, without the petition for change of name!. I would suggest just accepting that your son has a beautiful name with a creative nuance that makes it special!. Whether the name is authentically Irish or not won't matter to him!. He'll just care that he has a cool name and that people won't tease him by calling him Michelle!. The $300-500 to legally amend his birth certificate is better spent on him for something good!. Don't fret bad spelling!.!.!.it's way too common these days!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

However you want to spell it is ok as long as you are consistent!. If he already has a social security number you may want to change the name spelling but other than that you really don't need to do anything but use the name you want in a consistent basis!. My name was misspelled on my birth certificate and my mother changed the spelling and used that for everything thereafter!. No problem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's is a beautiful name either way even if it is Irish or Swedish or Gaelic!. This name has a distinct and unique way of spelling it rather than the usual Micheal that everyone else uses!.

You should definitely keep it because foreign names and ways of spelling is so amazing and wonderful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You probably have to legally change his name, as if you change the spelling, his social security number and name won't match up!. This happened to a teacher of mine--he went to apply for a passport, but discovered that there was no one with the name he assumed he had!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unless you want to pay for it, there's no way of just changing the spelling (as they'd be two different names)!. Just use Micheál unofficially until he's old enough to decide for himself!. I presume you know the pronunciation (me-hawl)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

there is no inexpensive way to legally change it unforunately!. You would have to go through the whole process even if it's the spelling!. My friend her name is spelt Mata and she wants it spelt Mayda and they told her she had to go through the process!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am not sure how you would do that!. I would start by talking to the record keeper at the hospital he was born at or at a county office where the keep those kind of records!. It will probably have to be some kind of court ordeal!. You know so they can get some green from you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The swedish spelling is cool!. The name is still Gaelic, just not the spelling!. As well, Michael is the commonly spelled way, which technically isn't a big deal!. Mikael is cooler!. KEEP IT! If I were you're son, I'd love Mikael!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

just start spelling it differently!. i knew a girl who changed her name that way, she changed a 'Y' to an 'I' and it stuck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
