People have a way of thinking some surnames are Jewish!. Any name can be Jewish!. There aren't as many exclusive Jewish surnames as people tend to think!.

Jews are not in agreement as to the definition of a Jew

Reform Judaism defines a Jew by the religion alone!.

Orthodox and Conservative Judaism defines a Jew by the mother, alone, not the father or the religion necessarily!. If a person who has a Jewish mother renounced their Jewish faith, they still consider them Jewish!. They state they get the nation form the mother and the tribe from the father and if they don't have a Jewish father they belong to the tribe of the nearest male relative on the mother's side of the family!.

A lot of names get identified as Jewish in the U!.S!. as a large portion of immigrants to the U!.S!. with certain names were Jewish while back in their country of origin, the same name was used by Jews and non Jews!. Names ending in 'stein'
or 'burg' are not necessarily Jewish!.
