I found this on surenamedb!.com!. also look at the comment after!.
Are you looking for any particular Neaths!?
Recorded in a number of spellings including Natt, Neat, Kneath, Knath, and Neath, this is a rare Welsh locational surname!. "Rare" not because it is not well recorded, but because it is locational, almost all Welsh surnames are patronymics such as Jones and Thomas!. There are no less than five places in the county of Glamorgan called Neath, and any or all of them, can be the originator of this surname!. The meaning of the placename and hence the later surname, is believed to be "the cattle farm" from the original Welsh ( pre 7th century Old English) "neat" meaning cattle!. The surname is well recorded in Glamorgan from the 17th century, which is quite early for many Welsh surnames, the country being one of the last in Europe to adopt the system of hereditary spellings!. Early examples of the surname recording taken from authentic surviving church registers of Glamorgan include William Knath of Swansea, on August 28th 1614, William Kneath of Nicholaston, on May 24th 1729, and Mary Neath, who married Thomas Hugh at Pennard, on March 26th 1757!. Curiously this surname does not appear in the book of Welsh Surnames, although the rare female name Nest, which is also an occasional surname, is recorded!.

Can't really agree with your description of Origin of the surname! Two of the names mentioned refer to Wills not births! One man was born in Devon! My own theory is that the name comes from people who worked for the Abbey at Neath, which was founded in 1130!. The abbey made money from their own shipping trade in the Bristol Channel!. It also owned land in Devon & Somerset!. My wife is a Neath & her ancestors came from Somerset we are almost certain but not, as yet, proved!. Of the 1000 or so on our database very few were born in Wales!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe it's Welsh but I can't really find out too much about it because every search I do pulls up nothing but other surnames originating from a town in Wales!. Perhaps your surname originates from this town as well!? Sorry, this was the best I could do!. :-(Www@QuestionHome@Com

has 116 entries for the surname, if you check "Omit Blanks" next to the birthplace!. Many are born in the USA, some in England, some in Wales, some are hard to tell!. "Folkworth" isn't a country, for instance, but that's where Edward Neath was born in 1865, according to the entry!.

His father was born in 1838 in "Morborn Hunts", wherever that is!. It sounds English!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
