Question: Any websites that can help me figure out what nationality I am!?
My dad was adopted and I can't get much information on ancestors!. I was wondering if there were any websites that could help me narrow down possibilities by being able to download a photo and have it calculate facial features to determine nationality!. I might just be watching to many crime shows on tv, but I'd like to know if I'm German, Irish, Nordic or just some white person with no family history!. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some will suggest DNA tests!. Now Y & Mitochondrial will give you only a picture of a very tiny portion of your ancestry!. The companies that use Y & Mitochondrial often advertise that they will help you discover "your deep ancestral roots" but it will be your deep ancestral roots in 2 lines only!. Y DNA goes from father to son only!. Mitochondrial DNA is passed from mother to both sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to their children!.
So, say if you have a brother that did both the Y & Mitochondrial, right off the bat it would leave out your maternal grandfather and your paternal grandmother!. If you get back to your 6xgreat grandparents, you are directly descended from 510 individuals (ancestry pyramids as you go back)!. Only 8 would have his Y DNA and only 8 would have his Mitochondrial DNA leaving out 494 people!.

There is a company that will test your Autosomal DNA which is what most of your DNA is and represents your total genetic pattern!. They won't tell you you are 1/2 of something and 1/4 of something else and 1/4 of another!. What they will do is match your DNA with population groups throughout the world and give you your top 20 matches!.

Now, I have found out you don't get your Autosomal 50-50 from both parents!. So the results can vary in siblings!. http://www!.searchmytree!.com/Inheritance!.!.!.!.

The only company in the U!.S!. that does that type of testing as far as I can find is

http://www!.dnatribes!.com!.

When you go into their site, there is a way you can email them and ask questions!.

I asked them specifically if my sister which I share both parents with had the same test would the results be the same and they told me

"Two siblings will obtain unique results!. Family members do typically share some regional or ethnic affiliations, but in some cases can vary
substantially between siblings!."

Someone asked recently if they could have more "Indian blood" in them than their brothers or sisters!. She used an anachronism "blood!." People used the term "blood" before they knew anything about genes, DNA!. But our DNA is in all our body tissues and fluids!. You could be just as correct to refer to your Skinlines, Bonelines as well as Bloodlines!. Actually Genealogy DNA testing companies use saliva!. According to information in my first link and information from DNA Tribes in a family, one child can for instance be more English and the other be more French!.

Nationality is not the same thing as race, ethnicity or ancestral heritage!. Your nationality is the country in which you have your citizenship!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, there is no such thing!. A nationality is not something given down from generation to generation, nor has it got anything to do with how you look!. It is a word describing which country you are a citizen of, and that's it!. It is a legal expression!.
Furthermore, Europe has been crossed by every old tribe from left to right and back and than they decided to split and go their own ways, and this has been going on ever since the last ice-age!. Europeans pretty much have one gene-pool, and an Irish person might not be visibly different than a German or an Italian guy!.
Anyhow, your parents are, I guess (and I am only guessing this because you didn't sy where you are writing from - there are numerous people from the UK and Australia on here, too), US-Americans, and so, I guess, where your grandparents, so you are US-American!. You are a citizen of the USA, and so your nationality is also US-American!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's possible for you to claim the nationality of your grandparents so it's just possible that you could claim your father's natural parents nationality!. The chances are however that will get you nowhere since they are likely to be US citizens!.
You need to find details of your father's adoption!. If he is alive you will need to do this through him!. Any adult adopted child has the right to determine who his/her natural parents are!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your nationality is whatever country you are a citizen of!. I don't believe you don't know what citizenship you have!.

Facial features can't tell you your ethnicity!. There is no way that anybody could look at a photo of you and say "This person is German/Danish/Irish/Dutch/whatever"!. Still less would it be possible to say "This person is half German, one quarter Danish and one quarter Irish" or whatever!. So if you want to know your ancestry, you'll just have to chisel away at whoever organised your adoption!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ancestry!.com might help!.

Your parents last names usually can help with the ethnic part of it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
