Quite simply it's most likely a matter of keeping things simple!. I'm sure very few people on the face of the planet are 100% of one single race anymore!.

So, if the majority of people were to look at a picture of President-Elect Obama they would arrive at the conclusion that he's black!.

Because of the one drop rule in america where if one person has a drop of blood from a person of african descent they are considered black!. Personally i would call anyone who is mixed, mixed!. It has been quoted that america is "the only country where a white woman can have a black child but a black woman can never have a white child "!. I think it's silly to generalize people according to the one drop rule especially since it was developed during slavery and is being used to this day!.

I'm not sure where you get he is 43!.75 Arabic!. I have not seen a genealogy on his father!. Not all Arabs are Muslim and Muslims of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, the Muslim republics of the former Soviet Union, and most of Africa are not Arab!.

His father has been identified as a Muslim but I understand he was an Atheist even though his family is Muslim!. It was Barrack's stepfather who was a Muslim and Barrack attended a Muslim school for a short time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

By published genealogy!.!. the AVAILABLE records show that his paternal grandparents are known/ identified, both of whom were born in Kenya!.
Getting away from political concepts- in standard and reliable genealogy, the core is RELIABLE documentation!. Meaning!.!. NO ONE has any documentation of any ancestor from Arabia!. Thus, the only ancestry is based what is "provable", which goes into Kenya!.
The figures that people have tossed out there are based soley in unsubstantiated rumors, unless you personally have birth and death records of someone born in Arabia!.
Any qualified genealogist would simply throw out the statements of being "43!.75" Arabic!. No record shows this to be a fact!.
Like any person of mixed ancestry!.!. they are equally descended from all of the ancestry, but more often, choose to identify as one group!. To identify as black is based on his father's ancestry, as well as his cultural choice in marriage into the African American community!.
Or, he is JUST as entitled to accept that, as he is his mother's side!.
