Question: What's the best way to find if you are Native American!?
My grandmother's father is possibly Native American, as my grandmother has said!. also, she looks vey Native American!. I never met him and my grandmother is getting old so she doesn't remember everyhting!. My grandfather gave me everything that she had ( aka his name and birthplace!.) I've checked the Dos roll and im pretty sure hes not on it, but I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to prove he's Native American!. To find out the Nation you need to trace a family member to a tribe to see if their name appeared on any base or census roll!.

There are different rolls for the various Nations!. For example the Dawes and Baker rolls

Most rolls relate to what is referred to as the 5 civilized tribes!. (Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek, Chickasaw, and Seminole)

Native American Rolls

For other tribes!.!.!.!. You will have to look for census data or the Nations base rolls!. (a census the was taken when the reservation was established!.)

Indian Census Records

Many Native Americans did not appear on any roll!. Some were deliberately excluded and others refused to register (for many reasons)
