Just start doing it!. You may have to pay a small fee to get a new driver's license!. Start signing your name that way, have your credit cards changed and so on!.

Your case is (legally) similar to a woman who takes her husband's name; she just shows the DMV and her bank her wedding certificate, and Mary Jones becomes Mary Jones Smith without a court, judge or lawyer!.

Take a copy of Junior's birth certificate with you and explain he's old enough it is starting to cause confusion, so will they add "Sr" to your bank statement, health records, passport, credit card, telephone bill, Blockbuster registration, library card !. !. !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the United States, you simply insert the abbreviation after your surname; for example, Donald John Trump, Sr!., although you may not want to do this until your son's bills and correspondence start to get mixed up with yours if you live in the same town!. A comma comes between the last name and the suffix since it is parenthetical!. BTW, your son is officially a junior only if all his given names are exactly the same as yours!. Upon your death, if your son so chooses, he can drop the junior from his name and sign himself as a senior!.

My dad was a junior and my brother a III!. When I was growing up, we occasionally received department store bills that were suppose to be sent to my paternal grandparents!. When my grandfather died, my dad dropped the junior from his name!. In turn, when my dad died, my brother dropped the III (which was officially on his birth certificate) from his name!. He also broke this tradition when naming his two sons!.

I don't think you need to make the distinction - only if a Jr!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
