Have one designed and made!. Now there is no way you can register it so I don't know how you can stop someone from copying it!.

Another thing trace your family history and see if you go back to a direct male line ancestor that was granted or they assumed a coat of arms!. If it is English, Scottish or Irish, you should submit your family tree with documentation to the heraldry authority of the country involved and find out if they will grant you one!. In those countries only the oldest son obtain his father's upon his father's death!. All sons obtained one with some differences!.

If you want to create your own arms, then you need to read a book about heraldry!. You need to know the basic rules about tincture, charges, and what not to do, such as use supporters or crowns since these signify rank!.

I would suggest looking at the book list at the American Heraldry Society website, and reading their introduction to heraldry!.

A good first book would be Slater, The Complete Book of Heraldry, London: Lorenz Books, 2002!.

Another option is to contact the US Heraldic Registry or the American College of Heraldry and pay for design assistance!.

Creating a coat of arms can take time, and there is much to consider!. You want to involve family members and consider future generations!. In your design you can tell a story, make a pun on your name, or represent something of import to the family!. If you are a UK citizen you can buy one from the college of Heralds!. It doesn't come cheap, mind!. Those sites and services which claim to provide them are scams!. they will just sell you the coat of arms of a family of the same name as yours!. Cheaper though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
