The Asian eye ball isn't really smaller than the European but the way the skin around the eye is folded (epicanthic fold) makes the eyes appear smaller and almond shaped!.

All humans initially develop epicanthic folds in the womb!. Some children lose them by birth, but epicanthic folds may also be seen in young children of any ethnicity before the bridge of the nose begins to elevate!.

One hypothesis for the fold is that a narrower eye opening reduces the amount of damaging UV radiation entering the eye in snowy and sandy locations, since sunlight reflects more intensely off light colored surfaces!.

It could also have been the result of cultural selection!. Women with the fold were considered more desirable and produced more children with the fold!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

same reason whites have pointy long noses, black have curry hairs and so on!. i personally think it is the environment that affected the genes long long ago!. if you want to look at it, just see a fourth generation chinese american and compare him to chinese in the mainland [lets say they are all "pure" chinese (not mixed)]!. you can spot the differences!.!. i herd somewhere before that it was genetically imprinted through selective breeding from way back when man first arrived to the gobi desert from africa, the tribes who passed through spent such a long time in the blinding light of the white sand desert that they adapted thinner eyes to let less light in their pupilsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I always thought it had something to do with sand and the wind!. Either through selective breeding or an evolutionary trait!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
