There are 3 types of DNA!. Y,Mitochondrial and Autosomal!.

Y is passed down from father to son only!.

Mitochondrial is passed down from mother to both sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to their children!.

You should have the same Mitochondrial as your siblings!. If you had brothers, they would all have the same Y!.

Autososomal you get from both parents but I have found out it is not 50-50!. It comes down from all of our ancestors!. also DNA Tribes state is is not the exact in each sibling!. The link below explains it better!.

It represents more of your total ancestry while Y & Mitochondrial represents a very tiny portion of your ancestry!.

Example: Your ancestry pyramids as you go back!. If you get back to your 6Great grandparents, you are directly descended from 510 individuals, barring any duplicates!. Of those 510 individuals you would only get your Mitochondrial DNA from 8 leaving out 502 people, 247 on your mother's side and 255 on your father's!. If you were a male in addition you would get your Y DNA from only 8 leaving out then a total of 494 people, 247 on both your mother and your father's side!. The company below does Autosomal testing and matches you with population groups throughout the world!.

I just worked back through my family tree and found that right back to the 1500's we were mostly English (with a Scottish and a Welsh line thrown in), except that in the 1600's an obviously French couple (Beniamin Bourgoyne and Gatherude la Rue) married in Devon and their daughter married into my long time Brits!.
Then, a desire to know way back pre-history I had a matrilineal DNA test and found that my ancestor some 20,000 years ago was Asian!Www@QuestionHome@Com
