DNATribes will test your Autosomal DNA to show your matches to various population groups around the world!. They are the only company in the U!.S that is doing that type of testing as far as I know!. FamilyTreeDNA does not do this type of test!. I believe they did at one time!.

The other companies will only use Y & Mitochondrial for genealogy testing which is a very minute part of your total ancestry!. The reason they are used is they go back in a straight line virtually unchanged and are good to help match you with family trees!. The companies that use Y & Mitochondrial will tell you they will help you discover your "deep ancestral roots" but it is only in 2 lines!. Y goes from father to son only!. Mitochondrial goes from mother to both sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to their children!.

As you go back your ancestry pyramids!. Barring any duplicates if you get back to your 6xgreat grandparents you are directly descended from 510 individuals!. Of those 510 individuals you get your Y DNA from only 8 and your Mitochondrial DNA from only 8 leaving out 494 people!. If you go back another generation to your 7xgreat grandparents the number of people you are directly descended from doubles to 1012!. You would get your Y from only 9 and your Mitochondrial from only 9 leaving out 994 people!. So you can see using Y & Mitochondrial will only give you a teeny weeny view of your heritage!. If you are doing family research they are valuable because if you match yourself with other family trees, you no doubt will be able to discover some of the persons left out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
