Question: Would you consider me a light skinned black person or a mixed race person!?
I am a light skinned black woman!. I also have somewhat Caucasian features!. My nose is an African American nose but it is really small, almost button like!. I have really thin, pink lips!.

My mother is dark skinned black woman!. My father is a medium brown skinned black man!.

On my fathers side, his mother and grandmother were light skinned black woman!. They married darker skinned men!.

On my mothers side, I only have 1 uncle and 1 aunt that is light skinned!. The rest are either medium skinned or dark skinned!.

So I was wondering biologically how would you determine if I was mixed race or not!? Because slavery happened and most everyone is mixed race!. So would you tell how much of a percentage of white or native american you have!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

well by u!.s!. definition you would be considered african american but from your self description you definitely have some europeans in your genealogy !.do some online research and see what you can find out i'll bet you have a really interesting back ground and it sounds as if your a really beautiful woman black,light-skinned or mixed!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It sounds as though there was a white person someone in your ancestry!. You can safely classify yourself as black or mixed!. Since both of your parents probably consider themselves black, I would just go with that!. There are websites for companies that will do testing to see what different races show up in your DNA!. It's a bit pricey though!. Don't worry about how to classify yourself!. Just be a good person and let that speak for you!. Skin color is irrelevant!. Character and moral quality are what count most!. You are African American if both your parents are!. Of course you may have other heritage through your ancestry!. Keep in mind that all African tribal people do not look the same, I often have to explain this for my Indigenous ancestry when people say things like, but your nose isn't an Indigenous nose or you have green eyes so you don't look Indigenous!. It used to be annoying but now the comments are boring !

Your Black, there's no trace of White obvisoly!. You dont have to be light skinned with small lips to be mixed!. It's about genetics!. And that's what people tend to not realize!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are what you classify yourself as being, according to the US Census!. If you are really interested in the percentages, spring for a DNA test!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure why it would matter to you - is this Obama related!? If both your parents are black, I'd say you are black!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Black Babe, you answered your own question with your screen name!. As to what other people think, it really doesn't matter!. Since I have researched genealogy to some extent, I would say that you are mixed!. Of course, everyone is mixed!. While the Army, Social Security, etc!., consider me to be a "Caucasian", I have traced my ancestry to 3 various Native American tribes, Eskimos, Innuits, and more!. By paper trail I have gone back to one ancestor in Africa!. By DNA, I have Filipino, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, and others, all over the globe!.
As to your reference to slavery, don't get hung up on that: every race, creed, color, sex and national origin has been slave and free, just depending upon the current events!. War is probably the number one cause for mixe parentage!.
If you go to www!.cindis!.com you can find plenty of websites that may help in tracing your ancestry!. For DNA, try www!.familytreedna!.com, the oldest and largest of its kind!.
also, don't forget your local public library, and college/university libraries, if any are nearby!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
