The best one I think is dnatribes!.com I know alot abt anthropology and population genetics and the other tests are more general and less accurate!.

The dna print tests are quite good that tell you what your percentages are 60% european etc,but they group indian et al etc as european and native american results are often confused with asian/siberian results!.It's too vague!.

I can tell you off the bat that the majority of african americans have around 20% european dna, and dna tests do not reflect physical appearence!.One african american family I read of the mother was the lightest and got the highest african percentage!.

The dna tribes test tells you which population group your markers match too!.They also have an add on which can test for specific african groups!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here's the link for the National Geographic Genome Project!. They're the only ones I know of right now that are conducting the genome project and opening up the project to members of the general public!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

http://www!.dnaancestryproject!.com/ydna_i!.!.!.
That's another one!. I think they have more options than National Geographic does!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I hope you are prepared to pay well for it, hundreds of dollarsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I believe Lucy's answer is the best to show you your matches to various population groups!. DNATribes is the only company that I know of using Autosomal DNA for this type of testing!.

FamilyTreeDNA, I believe, use to use Autosomal but they tell me they don't do that type testing!.

Most companies use Y & Mitochondrial only!.

Y is passed from father to son only!.

Mitochondrial is passed from mother to both sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to their children!.

Those 2 types are used in genealogy as they go back in a straight line virtually unchanged and are helpful in matching yourself with other family trees!. However, the two represent a very small part of your ancestry!. They advertise that they will help you discover "your deep ancestral" roots but realize it is only your deep ancestral roots in 2 lines!. If Mitochondrial is what Oprah used, it is only a teeny weeny part of her ancestry!. It might have shown what tribe she originated from in only one line!.

The number of people you descend from pyramids as you go back!. Barring any duplicates, if you get back to your 6xgreat grandparents(that is 9 generations including yourself), you are directly descended from 510 individuals!. Of those 510, you get your Mitochondrial DNA from only 8 and if you are male in addition, you get your Y DNA from only 8, leaving out 494 people!.

The number of people you descend from doubles each generation you go back and the number of people left out with Y & Mitochondrial alone almost doubles as you go back!. If you get back to your 7x great grandparents, it will leave out 1002 people as you are directly descended from 1020 people and you get mitochondrial from only 9 and Y from only 9!.

You get Autosomal from both parents coming down from all your ancestors!. Now the testing that is done with Autosomal will not tell you that you are are 1/4 Kenyan, 1/4 English, 1/4 Nigerian and 1/4 French!. They will give you the top 20 match likelihood index for population groups!.

If you go into their website below, there is a way you can email them and ask questions

Autosomal really represents your total genetic pattern!. No one sibling inherits the absolute same genetic pattern!. So, if a brother or sister did the same test, they would have some differences!. We all have recessive genes that don't show up in our appearance, but can in our children and grandchildren!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
