Question: Do you have any famous or infamous people in your family tree!?
My sister recently did our family tree and we found out that we are related to Bonnie Parker of the notorious duo 'Bonnie and Clyde' on my grandfather's side!. Not exactly the kind of relative one hopes for but still a little cool!. So, my question is do you have any well known people in your family tree!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
A Texas Ranger named Browning who was supposedly a part of the Capture of Bonnie and Clyde!.

also Kaiser Wilham but all I have is an autographed copy of a book about his rule in Germany to demonstrate that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My grandfather was the first white man to deliver a black baby in the Congo!. I have a film of the birth!. My dad's also quite well-known in his field!. Other than that; nothing but labourers and peasants in my tree, but I wasn't trying to find a link to royalty, so I'm not disappointed!.

I'm trying to find the link with Richard Salter though, founder of Salter Housewares, who now produce 40% of the UKs scales

Yes: Adam and Eve ;)
Seriously though, I haven't myself gone that far back as yet to perhaps have such a find but having said that, a contact reckons from another contact that an ancestral name in our tree goes back to Robert Loxley, aka Robin Hood!.

King Alfred the Great, and Lady Godiva!.!.!. just as do thousands of others!.
also 7 convicts at last count, sent to Australia by English and Irish governments, for as little as stealing a lady's handkerchief and another for stealing a bolt of calico!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yah!.!.!.the Berkeley Family of England!.
The Berkeley family of Berkeley Castle ( Where King Edward II was Murdered) is one of three families in England that can trace its lineage in the male line back to Saxon times!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am apparently a grandnephew of one Dan Seavey, who was the last pirate on Lake Michigan!. I am also very distantly related to the Queen of England (about 24th cousins)!. Which is great fun -- and totally irrelevant!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I joined Ancestry!.com last year and found out my family is related to:

Richard Nixon
John Wayne
Audrey Hepburn
Humphrey Bogart

Not bad, eh!?!?!?

My Great Uncle Clarence Holeman was in the Mob!. He died in a car "accident" in Ellinwood Kansas!. My Great Grandpa was in Folsom Prison!. and I am 3rd cousins to Christina ApplegateWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'm supposedly a direct decendant Saqoyah,as well as the 5th great-nephew of George Washington!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

According to Ancestry!.com and also verified, I'm a direct descendant of a Colonel William Crawford, a life-long friend of George Washington, who was tortured and burned at the stake by American Indians in a "notorious incident" near the end of the American Revolution!. Another direct ancestor, a younger son of the Earl of Crawford in Scotland, a John Crawford, (on the other side of the family, although he descended from the same ancestors), took a leading role in the Bacon Rebellion early in colonial history!. Still another direct ancestor, Richard Stout, rescued the Duke of York during the English Civil Wars and was thus granted a large land grant in New Jersey whereupon he married Penelope Van Princes (which neatly ties me into the Roosevelts)!. One of Richard Stout's descendants, Miranda Stout, married a Scot named John Macquarrie, who was transported to the colonies after the Battle of Culloden!.

Not even mentioned by Ancestry!.com, but certainly verified by family records, I'm a distant cousin to Spanky Mcfarland, the fat kid in "The Little Rascals", who hailed from Dallas, Red Skelton, and Jim Bachus, who played Mr!. Magoo and Thurston Howell, III!. A second cousin, George Connally, also played for the White Soxes!. My dad's uncle, Tom Connally, was the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and a senator from Texas during World War II!.

In the close but no cigar department, a great, great grandfather's second wife was a first cousin of Sam Houston and a great grandmother's second husband's first wife was the daughter of Jefferson Davis!. Ancestry!.com notes that about my closest famous relative is Davy Crockett (fourth cousin, twice removed), although that's no feat in Texas since I've actually taught one of his direct descendants whose last name was Crockett!.

Of course, the not verified relatives disclosed by Ancestry!.com make for the most interesting possibilities!. Ancestry!.com notes that I'm an 8th cousin, twice removed, of Elizabeth II through the Queen Mum; it also discloses that I'm a direct descendant of Charles I (and James I and Mary Queen of Scots) through the line that eventually married into the Spensers!. Two other lines also tie me into the Stuart (or Stewart) Dynasty in England and Scotland where I'm a descendant of Robert the Bruce and a lot of kings named James!.

Of course, I'm related to numerous US Presidents (are you reading this David Ickes)--Andrew and Lyndon Johnson (and Lady Bird too), Kennedy (not to mention Jackie), both Harrisons, both Bushes (and Laura), Teddy Roosevelt, Clinton, Ford, and Nixon!. I'm also related to a slew of British and American authors: I'm a 19th great granddaughter of Chaucer (as is Queen Elizabeth), and a distant cousin of Robert Louis Stevenson [through three different lines], Jane Austen, George Eliot, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Virginia Woolf, J!. M!. Barrie, George Orwell, Alex Huxley, Gore Vidal [which means I'm related to Al Gore as well], Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain, Emily Dickerson [maybe I better start wearing white], O!. Henry, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Thoreau, and Hawthorne (I roomed with his great something, something daughter my second year in college)!. Then there are a lot of actors and entertainers who are distant cousins: Judy Garland, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Katherine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Laurence Oliver, and Elvis Presley!. Then there are the bad guys: Cousins Clyde Barrow, Butch Cassidy, and Sam Bass!.

All it takes to be related to any of these people is for one's ancestors to immigrate to Virginia or the middle colonies from both England and Scotland starting in the early 1600s!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
