Question: Are there ways you can tell if you have a small amount of black ancestry!?
Okay I know some people will say you need to document all your ancestors, well so far I don't know of any record of any black ancestor of mine, I do know that my mom's side is Metis from the fur trade culture in Canada (my dad's side is white) so I have native and caucasian ancestry!. There are supposed to be some ways to tell if you have native ancestry, like shovel shaped teeth, which I have!. Is there anything like that for black ancestry!? I don't have any obvious black features that I can tell, but I think my grandpa did because he had lips like black people, except the lower lip was a lot fuller than the upper lip!.

Never mind documentation!. Errors are so common in documents as to render them almost useless!. Especially nowadays!. My last job was as a computer technician: as we said, to err is human, to really mess up, you need a computer!.
But, it really is easy: if you are a human being, some of your ancestors were black!.
If you want to prove it, opt for a DNA test, such as the ones from www!.familytreedna!.com, the oldest, largest, and best!. also, try the National Geographics Genotype Program websites, which trace human migration patterns worldwide!. And read up on the subject; read books such as the following:
“Mapping Human History: Discovering the Past Through Our Genes” by Steve Olson
"Genealogy 101" by Barbara Renick and

Most geneticists think that 1/4 of the "white" population in America has some African ancestry!.
I think you can get a paternal line test done for fairly cheaply ($129)!. It is for males only!. If you are female you would have to have your father tested or your maternal grandfather!.

You could try DNA testing, but the shovel teeth characteristic that you
describe is also common in the Merlingin of the blue ridge mountains, who are not considered Native American, but a mix of many different ethnic backgrounds!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you have DNA tests done, Y only if you are a male and Mitochondrial for female and males, it will show eventually, your ancestry goes back to East Africa!. Due to genealgogy DNA it is believed that the human race began in East Africa 100,000 years ago!. Some feel from a single couple!.
Our differences are due to mutations!. At one time all of our ancestors were nomads!. As we underwent mutation or didn't, some peoples could not survive in certaiin areas of the world!.and died out!.
Example: the sun is very rich in Vitamin D!. It has been found that the minimum amount of Vitamin D a black African requires is the maximum amount of vitamin D someone of Northern European origin should have!. Today it doesn't make much difference!. There are Vitamin supplements!.
Now Y DNA goes from father to son only, Mitochondrial DNA goes from mother to both sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to their children!. It is really a very minute part of your total DNA!.
Most of your DNA is Autosomal which you get from both parents, coming down from all your ancestors!. It represents your total genetic pattern!.
