If I understand you correctly, no!.

The definition of a cousin is someone who shares a common grandparent of some sort with you!.

It appears you are not genetically related to this person!. If said aunt and uncle have kids, then both you and this person are first cousins to them, but not necessarily to each other, because you share no common grandparent!.

To simplify, bring it down to a sibling level!. John and Anna both have a kid from a previous marriage!. We'll call them John Jr!. and Lil Annie!. John and Anna get married, and have a kid called Tiny Tina!.

Tiny Tina is a half-sister to brother John Jr!. and Lil Annie, but John Jr!. and Lil Annie are not genetically related!. John Jr!. and Lil Annie could get married and have perfectly viable offspring!.

Another example!. My mother's sister is my genetic aunt!. She marries Bruce!. He is my uncle, but only through marriage, since (we hope), we share no DNA in common!. My real genetic Uncle would be the brother of either my father or mother, but not their spouses!. I am related to these spouses only through their marriage!.

Genealogists track all these things, but bloodlines are the basic structure, and all documents (marriage certificates, adoption papers, birth certificates, etc!.) are collected primarily to verify blood lines and note their interaction with other blood lines!.

It is perfectly acceptable to refer to this person as a cousin as a term of endearment; but you are not cousins unless there is evidence of shared DNA information from a past union between common ancestors, in which you would share a grandparent of some sort, and therefore would be real cousins!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
