Question:

Hi all-

I have a problem and wondering if someone with an ancestory!.com account could verify which birthday is correct before i put it in the family tree!.

I noticed on a Census Record from 1900 for my aunt Rose has a different birthday then what is supposedly on her death record, this is what i have:

according to the census record :

Name : Rosa Judy

Parents : Jacob Judy and Sarah adams

according to the census she was born in April of 1887

according to her death record :

Same parents listed , it says she was married to a Cecil Potter and was born in 1871 and died in 1941!.

rosa was born in ohio and died in ohio , just not sure which year is right!.

According to the 1900 census it says she was born in apr of 1887 and was 13 years old!. It is clearly readable on the census image and the transcriber also put the year as 1887!. However you must remember that census are not always exactly accurate!. The census taker could have gotten the information from a neighbor or they could have misheard or miswrote the information!. also death records are not always accurate either because the information from those are also given by the family and when someone is that old their family may not know the exact year they were born it wasn't as important to families back then as it is now!. I had a great aunt that no one knows how old she really was she has a delayed birth record and it doesn't match that of the family bible and she told everyone she was older going by siblings we go by the family bible when putting her age in our genealogy records as the preferred date of birth and just add the other as an alternate date of birth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She was clearly born in Apr!. 1887 in Ohio!. Her parents were married in 1886!.

It looks like 1877 would be correct, or else her mother would have been 13 at her birth,
Not unheard of, of course, but probably not likely!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
