I'm starting to look into my genealogy!. Very difficult task because I don't know much about my biological father's family!. I know my grandparents name and some very limited information on them!. I know my grandmother died at home during childbirth in 1942!. Would there be a record of the death since she died at home!? They lived in Liverpool England!. I'm a member of Ancestry!.com, but have not been able to find much in the way of information!. Any suggestions on some other information avenues!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Joseph sr worked as a "tin plate worker" and your gr/grandad Joseph worked as a "merchants clerk"!. The families address at the time of the 1891 census was 82 Leeds Street!.

I found this information for your gr/grandparents Joseph and his wife Mary F!.

Joseph's employment was listed as a "foreman corn miller" and Mary's employment was as a "certified school mistress"!.
Their address isn't very clear it looks like 4 Belamere Court or something like that!.
Your gr/gr/grandad Joseph sr was born in 1834 in Ireland, it doesn't give a place in Ireland though!. It gives Elizabeth's place of birth as Liverpool Lancashire and her birth year is 1836!. You wouldn't be able to get birth certificates for your gr/gr/grandparents as civil registration here in the UK didn't start until July1st 1837!. There may be a baptism certificate for Elizabeth but I am unsure about the birth/baptism procedure in Ireland!.
I am so pleased that you are delighted with the information I found for you!. I could have shared the images with you as you have membership to ancestry!.com I used ancestry!.co!.uk if you would like to contact me via email I can share the images of the census returns!.
I think I may have found Winifred Maud's birth details, if I have the right lady and I must say that this one is the only one with a second name begining with *M* , so you might want to order the certificate from the GRO!.
WMK!. born 1901 Leeds in the O/N/D quarter volume number 9b page number 482!.

U!.S!. answer; but much will work anywhere!.
You should start by asking all your living relatives about family history!. Then, armed with that information, you can go to your public library and check to see if it has a genealogy department!. Most do nowadays; also, don't forget to check at community colleges, universities, etc!. Our public library has both www!.ancestry!.com and www!.heritagequest!.com free for anyone to use (no library card required)!.
Another place to check out is any of the Mormon's Family History Centers!. They allow people to search for their family history (and, NO, they don't try to convert you)!.
A third option is one of the following websites:

Cyndi's has the most links to genealogy websites, whether ship's passenger lists, ancestors from Africa, ancestors from the Philippines, where ever and whatever!.

Of course, you may be successful by googling: "john doe, born 1620, plimouth, massachusetts" as an example!.

Good luck and have fun!

Check out this article on five great free genealogy websites:

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test!. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father!. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA!.
I used www!.familytreedna!.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program!.

There are so many websites devoted to genealogy; just google genealogy and see how many hits you get! You can even google "free genealogy sites" and get so many hits!. Don't forget to type in "smith family genealogy" (whatever surnames for your dad and mom, grandparents, etc!.), "webster county genealogy society", "kentucky genealogy society", etc!.
AND check Yahoo! genealogy answers, especially the top 10!. Just click on their profiles!.

Since you are in U!.K!., don't forget Burke's (father and son) and similar books!. If you don't have any solid info on your father, opt for a DNA test!.
