like really finding out about your family tree!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Definitely old relatives! Ask questions, get their memories on paper!. I've done so much by going by older relatives memories!.
Rootsweb - World connect site is good for searching family trees - it's free!.
Ancestry is a brilliant site, unfortunately it ISN'T free, and they've now changed their search options and we are not able to view search results without paying, big mistake, a lot of people aren't using the site anymore because of this!. (But you can join forums with lookeruppers that do have access to ancestry - the lookeruppers do this for free so be sure to thank your researchers)
Genealogy dot com, has brilliant forums (Genforum) with wonderful people who will do lookups for free!. (Surnames always in capitals)
Rootschat, good site to join - a way to find contacts and more lookeruppers!.
Depending on where you are located, there should Family History indexes & databases to search online!.
Don't forget the Census records for your country, a brilliant way to find occupations, addressses, other - previously unknown family members, ages etc!.

Genesreunited, another brilliant site to join!. They charge, but I'm a NON paying member and have received literally dozens and dozens of contacts via this site!. You can put your tree up there!.

My Heritage, put your tree up for free, add pics!.

Tribal Pages, put your tree up!.

Lost cousins - if you have certain census records for various countries, mainly Britain, you add these with ancestors names that are included in that record!. The site uses a search codec using the source/reference number you input!.

Join Genealogy and Family History forums, you can google out some good ones!.

Good luck with your research, be prepared to becoming addicted!.

I like ancestry!.com!. You might even want to start with the death certificates of your family at the recorders office in your area, incase there's info on them you're unaware of!. Only like 15 bucks a peice!. I also went to the office at a cemetery I thought my grandfather was in, and I ended up finding him!. The receptionist looked up whatever I asked, it also helped that we shared the same last name!. She gave me copies of everything they had it was great!. All those have worked for me!. Good luck in your adventure!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The best place to start is with your older relatives!. They won't always be there to ask so get to them while you still can!. I would record them with a camcorder or tape recorded if they will allow it because you will never remember everything they tell you!. And when you are talking to them and they start telling stories you think are meaningless to your research at the most unlikely time they will say something important!. After talking to your family I go to your local library and see what they have for you!. That way you know your addicted before joining any pay sites online!. After you know your addicted buy a subscription to www!.ancestry!.com it is well worth the price for all of the information you can gain access too!. And it is one of the few sites you can actually view a copy of the original source document rather than depending on what someone has transcribed!. Census records have been the most help to me for finding new family members and getting clues to their birth and death dates to further research and find their actual birth or death records!.Census also gives you further information on their occupation and where they were born some even give where the parents were born!. You can also usually access Heritage Quest through your local libraries website and they offer most of the census for the United States for free!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Two sites!.
www!.ancestry!.com!. You will have to pay a fee for some of the more detailed info!. They have copies of the 1910, 1920, 1930 censuses in the USA!. Plus they have info from Ireland, England etc!.
www!.familysearch!.com
This is the site run by the mormon church!. They have some info but not as much as ancestry!.com but it is all free!.
You can also go to www!.ellisisland!.org and check the ships & see who came in when!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
