Question: Need help on genealogy!?
I recently got in contact with someone in Italy who has the same name as me, and we discovered our grandparents were brothers, so what does that make us!? Cousins once removed, second cousins!?
What relation would my children have to his children!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Second cousins!.

Your kids would be third cousins to each other!. To you, these kids of your second cousins would be second cousins once removed!.

I think!. But here's the link: http://genealogy!.about!.com/library/nrela!.!.!.

This might be more helpful: http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Family_rela!.!.!.

(Personally, this is the part of genealogy I hate, and I usually have to run it through my genealogy program to be sure!. Old timers will set me straight if I'm wrong!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Boomer Wisdom is correct!. One of your parents and one of that person's parents were first cousins!. Children of 1st cousins are 2nd cousins!. You would be a first cousin once removed to that person's parent and that person would be a first cousin once removed to your parent!.

The removes come in when you are in a different generation coming down from a common ancestor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe your relation to the person in Italy would be: first cousins once removed!. I ran into this same query in my own family and that is what we figured out!. Your children would be first cousins twice removed to your relative in Italy and second cousins to his children!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
