Question: Its easier to go backwards!!!?
I am researching a family tree and can go back generations but I'm completely stuck on going forwards!. I am looking for a female born in 1928 but can't even find her birth certificate!. I have the birth certificates of her four children but thats all!. The whole family has vanished! Any help would be wonderful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do you have her marriage certificate!? Does that provide any further info!? Which country is this lady from (remember she may not have been born where you expect)

Marriage in England means she should have her father's name and occupation which would help confirm any possible birth entries!. Do the names on the birth certificates tally with her name on the marriage cert!? Presumably you have searched English/Welsh records for 1928!. Try a few years either side!. She may not have been accurate with her age!. If still not found you might have to start looking for her parents' marriage, tricky with only the father's name - I hope its unusual!. If they married after her birth she would be registered under her mother's surname!. also Scottish records are separate as are Irish!.

If you make contact with any of the 4 children they may be able to provide additional info, even first names can be useful!. Good luck with your searchWww@QuestionHome@Com

Track back one thing at a time, but you know that already!.

When you've got the marriage certificate you can look for her parents in local archives, such as electoral rolls or directories, you can look for their marriage and so on - that should give you a clue to which record office you need to contact!.

There are online sources for birth/marriage/death records - freebmd is excellent, and it is free to search too!. Weekends are desperately busy though (link #1)

Be aware that people's names aren't always what you think they should be!. There will be spelling mistakes in transcription, one example we had was an R being mistranscribed as a B in the census!.

Try county rootsweb too, the county lists are brilliant with very helpful people (link #2)Www@QuestionHome@Com

If this lady is no longer with us it's fine to post her name and what ever information you have on her you can tell us what information you are looking for and I am sure someone will be able to find her for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
