Question: Free geneology web-sites !? Most sites ask for e-mail address but I only want to look and not sign up on now!.!?
!.
Looking for a free genealogy web-site that doesn't ask for your e-mail address!. Just looking for a genealogy web-site that I can type in family last name and find other postings with same family name!.

Most genealogy web-sites I look at will only allow you to explore what information is there if you first give them your e-mail address!.

Some have 7 day free trial memberships!. Yet, even those ask for your e-mail address before they'll allow you to explore further to have look-see at what's on their genealogy site!.

Even though trial membership is free, by submitting your e-mail address you're open to "pesty" mailings that you have to delete, un-subscribe, etc!. Not too bothersome, just feel it's a nuisance if just want to look around the genealogy web-site for a bit so see how it is!.

Know of any sites that has good information for a curious beginner who just wants to have a look-see at the web-site !? To type in family last name and see what others of same last name have posted on their site!?

Thanks!.

This website offers access to various census and vital records (and a whole lot more)!. It is one of the most popular free genealogy websites with absolutely no strings attached!. If you know birth years and locations for your relatives who were living before 1900, you'lll have a good chance finding a relative and the rest of their family in the census records!. If you'ree not certain, you may want to start by searching for death records which often provide birth dates and places, mother's maiden names, etc!.

Many people have been lucky to find someone else with common ancestors has already done some research and submitted a family tree at this site!.

E-mail addresses are not required at any of these sites!. Good luck to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like www!.rootsweb!.ancestry!.com and USgenweb!.org!. also try looking at your local County's website (if they have one)!. They will often provide tons of information that you would have to pay for with a national website!. The biggest (pay)site is Ancestry!.com!. You can get some information from them without signing up (they block out key information on search results)!. Rootsweb is associated/owned!? with/by them but you don't have to sign up!. try my heritage!.com!. Its what I use, its completely free!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

www!.cyndislist!.com the encyclopedia of genealogy sources

www!.rootsweb!.com go for the beginner guide!.!. then looking into surname boards/ lists (you can search archives with no registration)

www!.genforum!.com
surname boards

just a small tip!.!. look FIRST at any of the how to guides!. It can be very much an error to assume persons with the same name are related to you!. You need to work back from yourself, and collect info on living family OFFLINE!.!.!. don't expect to find that on the internet!. The further back you can go, the more odds you have of finding distant relatives!. Simply by the numbers!.!. more generations, more descendents!.
