Question: I need to find a WWII solider, to return a belonging of his back to him!. !?
I'm trying to find William, or Bill, Fisher who served in 1942 under the U!.S!. 340th Engrs!. I have his old canteen that he carved up, it also says on it:
-Vancouver Barks!. Washington
-Skagway, Alaska
-Bill Fisher CO!.R 1942
-Fort Ben
-It has a beautiful drawing on it as well!.

I want to give it back to him, or his family!.

Contact the Disabled American Veterans or Veterans of Foreign Wars in your town!.
Tell them your story, give them all the info, a photo of the canteen and your contact number!.
They will help you!.

It's a long shot, but you can post a query containing the above information which may generate some responses!.

Ancestry had the following military listing!.
William Fisher, born 1919, Buncombe County, North Carolina
Enlisted, 6 January 1941, Fort Jackson, South Carolina
Corp of Engineers
Race: White

Fort Ben could be either Fort Benning, Georgia, or Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana!.

Due to the referrence of Skagway, Alaska, I believe Bill Fisher worked on the Alaskan Highway, built during WW II!. CO!.R could be Company R!.

Additional:
I called 10 listings (only reached 6) on whitepages!.com, for North Carolina, but the ones I spoke to did not know/were not related to this particular Bill Fisher!. However, they did wish you luck in your search and commended you for wanting to return the canteen to the Fisher family!.
One lady suggested contacting Senators/Representatives at the State and National levels!.
Another suggested contacting a local newspaper; since Veterans Day is November 11th, perhaps, they would print your story/search as a human interest story!.
A young man, who was sleeping, suggested contacting Robin Meade, from CNN News!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that may be where he trained!. There are 205 William Fishers who enlisted in about the right time frame to be on active duty in 1942!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
