Question: Ok, her great-uncle married my great-aunt!. What is our degree of relationship!? !?
I've been intending to hire a customer and make her an employee, but I discovered this relationship today!. We are still laughing about it!. What is the degree of our relationship or does it just fall under "shirt-tail" relatives!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
You aren't related in any way!.

Example:
My Uncle has me as a niece and and another girl as a niece!.
His wife, my Aunt, is my father' s sister!. So I'm related by blood to my Aunt, and my uncle is my Uncle because he's married to her!. My Uncle has a brother!. I'm in no way related to his brother!.
So your dad has an Aunt who is the blood sister to his father!. His Aunt's husband is his Uncle as long as they are married!. This Uncle has a brother but he is in no way related to your father, and therefore you!. If this Uncle's brother is your friends Great Uncle, then no relationship!.

Your Great Aunt is your blood relation, where her husband is your Great Uncle because he is married to her!. His side of the family, isn't related to you!.

Clear as mud, right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If her uncle married your aunt, you'd be "cousin's cousin", which is handy but has no legal standing and isn't a blood relationship!.

First, second, third cousins and cousins once, twice or three times removed are legal, sort of (especially if someone rich dies with no close heirs, or one of you is a reigning monarch approaching death with no close heirs) and denote a blood relationship!.

"First cousin's cousin" and "Second cousin's cousin" is a disntinction no one would make but a genealogist trying to show off, (a wise, witty and devishly handsome genealogist, to be sure) but you two are 2CC, not 1CC!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What a coincidence! You are first cousins once removed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are no relation at all unless somewhere down the line you share a common ancestor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its way distant!. My grandpa's sister married my grandma's brother!. They all grew up together!. So, my great aunt married my great uncle!. lol!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
