Question: Can anyone help me with Irish Genealogy!?
My Irish grandparents Robert Paget born 1886 and Kate Rohan born 1889 both born in Dublin, Ireland!.
My Mum was one of their youngest children(9 of them)
My Mum, Mary Paget was born in May 1924 at 37, Cumberland St!. North, Dublin!.
I have seen the 1911 census where my grandparents were living at Summerhill, Mountjoy, Dublin!.
It shows them with the first 2 of their children- Teresa born 1910, and Matthew in 1912!.
Can anyone fill in anymore information as the Irish side of my family tree looks rather bare!.
I am very proud of my Irish roots so any information would be gratefully received!
Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The first place I would start is GENUKI:Ireland as this will have a lot of useful links and background information like maps etc to help you work from what you already know
http://www!.genuki!.org!.uk/big/irl/

The problem with Irish records is that many were burnt in the 1920s when the Record Office was burnt during the uprisings so there are some huge blanks in the records as a result!. An explanation of Irish registration and its history can be found at http://www!.groireland!.ie/history!.htm !.

The 1911 census for Dublin is online so you can check out Robert and Kate hopefully at
http://www!.census!.nationalarchives!.ie/

There are also some Dublin records online at the Dublin Heritage website
http://www!.dublinheritage!.ie/

There is also a website that transcribes cemetery records that might be of use to you, but you would need to work out which cemetery they are most likely to have been buried in I would think
http://www!.interment!.net/ireland/dublin!.!.!.!.

I have found some of my Irish ancestors details through the CMC website!. You now have to register, although registration is free!. They have alsorts of transcriptions and the work is ongoing to fingers crossed if they don't have what you need right now they will do soon!.
http://cmcrp!.net/index!.php

You might also get some parish records from searching on Familysearch but I find they're really good for the late 18th and early 19th centuries and not so good for late 19th century onwards so you may need to do some more research before you can use this website
http://www!.familysearch!.org

Best of luck with your research! I've been told I probably need to go to the Record Office in Dublin if I want to get further with mine!.

The 1911 census will tell you how long Robert and Kate had been married so you should be able to work out which year they actually tied the knot!.

Armed with that info and their names, you should be able to obtain a marriage certificate from GRO in Roscommon!. The staff at GRO Ireland are very helpful and will look for the registration without any additional charge!. An application form in online at www!.groireland!.ie (provide every bit of info you've got) and a photocopy of the certificate costs just 6Euros!. They're not super-speedy!. Might be several weeks before you receive it!.

The marriage certificate will give you the names of the fathers of both Robert and Kate, plus the townland/address where Robert and Kate were living prior to the wedding!. In all likelihood these will be the family homes!.

With that information you'll be able to start collecting info about the previous generation and Robert and Kate's siblings!. You may be able to find them in the 1911 census!.

Don't forget that the 1901 census will also be going online, free of charge, probably by next spring!.

Good luck with your research!.
