My 3 x great grans sister travelled into Nottingham city centre to watch a public hanging of a man who in a drunken state had murdered his wife and three children and had been sentenced to hang!. Because it was a crime where children had been murdered it would seem there were thousands of Nottingham folk who wanted to see justice served for the children and their mum!. Because of the amount of people who turned up, it was decided that the gallows would be moved and then more people could witness the hanging!. When word spread amongst the thousands of spectators the crowd began to run to get the best place to see, Millicent Shaw was trampled to death in Nottingham city centre, there were twelve more people trampled to death on that day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes! So far I have found out that I am a direct descendant of Dame Lilias Drummond of the famous Fyvie Castle in Scotland!.
I also have a few male ancestors who were "known' for dabbling in the Dark Arts!.
I have traced the religious history of my family line to the 1400's!. Six centuries of continued Catholicism has left me quite stunned!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have found out that we modern people have it really good and are generally spoiled little brats!.

Many of my ancestors were able to read & write, so they wrote about things, or did things that other people wrote about!. Those lines all came across to North America between the 1630's and 1720's, most with great misery and hardship!. Many were indentured!. Within a generation, however, they were running the show!. They founded towns and cities, and universities (Columbia & Rutgers), dumped the King's Tea overboard, and were generally hell-raisers hell-bent on creating a nation that wouldn't oppress them!.

There are lots of other lines, more obscure!. They're just as important!. I'm working on finding out who they are!. All of these people who struggled to pass on their DNA to us are important!.

Still can't find any horse-thieves, however!. Darn!.

A 3x Gt!. uncle was sentenced to death at Taunton Assizes for stealing 200 pounds "in Promisory Notes"!. Eventually he was sent to work in the Wellington Valley in Oz on a ship called "Claudine" in 1829!. Yes, I have traced my family back to Germany in 1675!. Most interesting, however, was the fact that my g-grandfather hadn't really died young, he had run off to California and "married" another woman while still married to my g-grandmother!. And nobody knew that until I discovered it a couple of years ago!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
