Keep in mind my mother has been at this for nearly 20 years!. This includes every vacation where we hit up a cemetary, church, courthouse or talked to some elderly, distant relative!. Not to mention a trip to the UK and another to Spain!. None of my ancestors are nobility either!. Geneology would be easier if they were, but not nearly as fun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I began researching my own family history in 1980 and have never kept a record of how much it has cost me, on the basis that what I don't know, won't hold me back !! I suspect that one way and another it must run to somewhere between ￡2000 and ￡3000 and I am still trying to climb higher up the tree!. I'm also now into genetic genealogy, so it hasn't stopped yet ! But it has all been very satisfying and well worth it !.Www@QuestionHome@Com I would say that I have spent at least ￡900, I buy a lot of cd's and books from the Notts Family History Society, I have spent a lot of money travelling and lots of money on BMD certificates I love the subject, and I am studying to become a probate genealogist!. My ancestors weren't wealthy at all, in fact I think the church mice used to throw food at them when they went on a Sunday morning, but there are some right characters amongst them!. I just love to find out about them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I have been doing genealogy for about 8 years, I find it to be very interesting, the history it really tells me who I am and Why I am the way I am as a person, because of how my ancestors lived What I am made of!. It is very important to me!. I have not kept count, the first few years I didn't spend alot, now I have a subcription to ancestry, several memberships and a magazine Subscription, so I have spent some, but not something I wouldn't spend on any other Hobby!. I am fortune to have an outstanding Genealogy Research Library nearby!. Our History is part of who we are!. It is important and as you get older you appreciate it more and more!. We are here for such a short time!. Before you know it you are reduced to a few census pages and an obituary!. Www@QuestionHome@Com I've spent no time or money!. My wife has spent a lot of time, but not much money!. We both came to the same conclusion: Who cares!? Sure, we're all curious about our ancestors, but it makes no practical difference, and I'm highly suspicious of "genealogy nuts" who all seem to be descended from nobility!.
