Not really!.!.!.to many due to privacy Laws
rootsweb has the SSDI it will give you the deceased ssn#

He will have to order the birthcertificate, unless it has been 50-72 years, it will cost 10-15 each!.
Missouri has death certificates online free from 1910-1957 is they died in MO during those years!. Not everyone has one though, as early on people still sometimes didn't get a death certificate they buried them themselves!.

I just filed for my Social Security, via a telephone appointment!.
I was asked for, without proof:
my ex-husbands full name and his date of birth
date of first marriage and the date of divorce
date of my current marriage
full name of my current husband and his birth date

And the only legal documentation I have to send to the Social Security Administration is a certified copy of my marriage certificate for my current marriage, because I am entitled to a portion of the amount he is collecting!. And, that portion will not reduce the amount my husband is receiving!.

The Social Security Administration already has a record of your father-in-laws ex-wifes Social Security number and her death, so he doesn't have to furnish them with anything, except her full name and birth date!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sounds like your father-in-law is being given the run-around by some over-zealous and ignorant civil service clerk!. He should ask for an interview with an executive officer and take along a copy of his old marriage certificate and divorce decree, plus any other relevant papers (birth certificates etc!.) he may have from that time!. The civil service should be able to trace everything from there!. They are the record holders for the nation after all!.

If he gets no satisfaction from that, then he should immediately contact the elected political representative for the constituency in which he resides and lay everything out for him/her!. He/she is obliged to take the matter up on his behalf with the government department concerned!.

Keep a written record of all conversations and telephone conversations (including date, time, participants, and a rough idea of the outcome) that he has with officials and representatives alike!. Don't let him get mad!. It doesn't do any good, and will only make officials even more intransigent than they already are!.

Official record searches will cost him money if he tries to do it by himself, and this is presumably money he doesn't have!. This is a typical Catch-22 situation which some stupid junior officials seem almost to enjoy!.

The best of good wishes for a satisfactory outcome!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If they have been divorced for 30 yrs, why would he need to have her information!? All he needs to do is to obtain a copy of her death certificate from the state where she died or a copy of the birth certificate from where she was born or contact the vital records office in the state from which he got divorced (and these usually do have a fee of some sort)!.

The only way I can suggest to find her social number, itself, is to try looking it up on the Social Security Death Index (free) or provide Social Security with a copy of the divorce decree (which should suffice)!.

When I got my divorce (1992), it was in the decree that as of the date it became official, we have no legal connection to each other, so when I file for Social Security, none of that information pertains to me!.

Good Luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are some free sites for public records check these out:

https://www!.virtualgumshoe!.com/resources!.!.!. Many public records for various counties are available!. I’ve been able to obtain copies of actual documents (without visiting the courthouse or paying a fee) for my tree!. Even my marriage record is listed on my county site!

http://www!.crimcheck!.com/freerecords!.htm!.!.!. This is a great site for finding free public records!. I have found many of my families death certificates so far and am still researching!. (There are records in addition to death certificates)!. When you first visit the site you need to scroll down past the information about background checks and you will find a listing for each public records!. Not each state has access to their public records but many have started listing them!. (Missouri has for sure!)

You might also want to edit you question and list the name of the person you are looking for!. Many of those on this site would be happy to research the person you are looking for and help you find some of the information you are looking for - such as the SSN!. I'll check back to see if you edit!.
