Question: Question about registering with the Cherokee nation!?
My grandma is 1/4 Cherokee and she would be so proud to be listed as part of the tribe!. I am trying to do this for her, but I am coming across many obstacles!. My question is this:

I have a relative on the Dawes!. He is not a direct ancestor, but the brother of my direct ancestor!. Might we still be able to register provided that we prove that they are 100% brothers and such!?

This small twist is causing a lot of trouble, so any help from people who actually know, and have experience with these matters is very much appreciated!.

Please note: general answers about the Dawes, etc!. aren't helpful as I am very familiar!.!.!. please only answer if you have experience/actual knowledge related to my Q!. Thank you!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe that you (or your grandmother in this case) must be a DIRECT, LINEAL DESCENDANT of a person listed on the Dawes Rolls!. Brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles or cousins don't count!.

If your ancestor's brother is on the Dawes, how about your ancestor's parent!? If so, there is your direct, lineal link!. If not, you are out of luck for enrollment in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
