Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: there's a very good book THE OXFORD DICTIONARY OF NAMES which gives the actual years names first appeared in records and what forms they could take (all sorts of weird spellings in earlier times!.) Common names in the late 11th c to the1300's were- John,William, Henry, Peter,Simon,Mark,Martin,James,matthew,St!.!.!. Roger,Robert, Robin (all still reasonably common today),with somewhat rarer names like Reginald, Walter,Geoffrey,Edward,Godfrey ,Hugo, Hugh,Ranald,Odo, Drogo,Guy,hubert, and Fulke!. Common female names were Isabella, Marion,Catherine, Joanna,Matilda,Maude,Agnes,Eleanor,Alice!.!.!. and slightly less so Petronella, Marriottmabel,amabel(a),Annis,Adela,Marj!.!.!. (Rose), Rosamund!. The names Anne,Elizabeth and Mary didn't become popular in England until slightly later-13-1400's, as they were considered too holy for use!. Other names that came into vogue slightly later were Isabel, oliver,Philip & Philippa,Constantia & Joan!. there were a few weird ones (mostly girls) like Scholastica, Melodia,Extrania,Galiena and Celestria, with a few for boys (Ancelin, Jocelyn,Jolyon) in the 1500's you can find most of the above plus a few girls called Amy,Helen,Frances,SusannahWww@QuestionHome@Com i quess that's gonna help: http://homepages!.rootsweb!.ancestry!.com/~!.!.!. http://freepages!.genealogy!.rootsweb!.ance!.!.!. enjoyWww@QuestionHome@Com Do some research on the early Aristocracy if you want a character with a wealthy background, otherwise names back then were just that - names!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Go to Google or something and type in, for example, "1600's names in (so and so country)!."
