Question: Could someone verify my ancestry!?
My surname is Leon!.
I was born in Australia, but my mother is English and my father is Sri Lankan!.
He is under the impression that Spain invaded Sri Lanka in the 1800's or there abouts, and several of the Spanish travellers had children with Sri Lankan natives, and several surnames passed down through generations (his mother's maiden name was Fernando, so both surnames are Hispanic-sounding)!.

Anyway, basically, i'm trying to figure out whether i may possibly have Spanish ancestry!!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

From Sri Lanka's (aka Ceylon) history:
A Portuguese colonial mission arrived on the island in 1505 headed by Lourenco de Almeida the son of Francisco de Almeida!.He made the first Portuguese voyage to Sri Lanka in 1505 and established a settlement there ,permitting the expansion of the Portuguese Empire in Asia!. (so there is your reason for the Hispanic-sounding surnames, not Spanish)!.
The British East India Company established control of the island in 1796, declaring it a crown colony in 1802, although the island would not be officially connected with British India!.
