I don't think it's a very popular name but I think its very pretty!. I found this for you,
Giselle
French and English: of Germanic origin, derived from the vocabulary element gisil pledge!. It was a common practice in medieval Europe to leave children as pledges for an alliance, to be brought up at a foreign court, and the name may be derived as a by name from this practice!. This was the name by which the wife of Duke Rollo of Normandy (c!.860-c!.930) was known!. She was a daughter of Charles the Simple of France, and may indeed have been offered to Rollo as a pledge for their truce in 911!. On her account the name enjoyed considerable popularity in France from an early period!. Gisela was also the name of the wife (c!.995-c!.1085) of King Stephen I of Hungary!. She was a Bavarian princess, noted for her Christian faith and her good works!. Use of the name in English-speaking countries is much more recent, and is due mainly to the ballet Giselle (first performed in 1841)!. Variant: French: Gisèle!.
Cognate: German, Dutch: Gisela!.

Short form: German: Gisa!.
