Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Snodgrass Scottish: habitational name from a place near Irvine in the former county of Ayrshire, named with northern Middle English snod ‘smooth’, ‘sleek’, ‘even’ + grass ‘grass’!. Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-508137-4 via http://www!.ancestry!.com/facts/Snodgrass-!.!.!. It sounded Zulu to me, so I looked it up!. I was wrong!. I guess that proves what happens when you guess, based on sound, especially when you've been drinking!. "Snodgrass!" sounds like the alarm the Zulu sentry yells when the gnus stampede across the veldt, because pretty quick all the grass is going to get snodded!. I would recomend consulting a reference book, via the link above, if you have other surnames!.Www@QuestionHome@Com My great great grandfather was Thomas Snodgrass Laird and he was a Scot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com |
