Question: What is the origin or meaning of the last name Degnitz!?

The surname Degnitz is pretty common in the part of the state where I live, and I do have some ancestors with the name in my family tree (a Johanna Degnitz married a Karl Schoedel/Schadel)!.

It seems like it may be German, as she was from Germany, but I cannot find anything about the name itself!. Is it a German name by origin!? Www@QuestionHome@Com
