Question: When doing a family tree do you use birth parents or adopted parents!?
My grandmother was adopted!. I am putting our family tree on geni!.com!. I have both her birth family back three generations and her adopted family!. Which should I use!? Geni only allows one - you cant note that she was adopted!. Is there a "correct" way to do this!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

My opinion is that you would want to trace your biological ancesters, so I would use your grandmather's birth generations!. You are joined to them in your genes!. !.

Good luck to you!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

In most genealogy programs you can do both!. There should be a way to link a person to 2 sets of parents and mark one as biological and one as adoptive!. You should be able to create a gedcom in a different program, then upload it to geni!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Genealogy deals with researching a direct bloodline!.

I don't know anything about the options for geni!.com, but all of the sites I use have a place to write notes/profiles/life stories, etc!., for each individual!.
If geni!.com has this option, add the info concerning the adoption, to your grandmothers page!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Put your grandmother's birth parents!. In the notes you can say she was adopted and who they were!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Birth parents only!. You are wasting your time if you research adopted parentsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think your birth parents otherwise you will be barking up the wrong tree, so to speakWww@QuestionHome@Com
