The Daughters of the American Revolution are actually the people holding the records you want!. Here's a short blurb on Jeremiah from their records:

Jeremiah SANFORD and Mary Modesett, his wife!.
Jeremiah SANFORD served in the ranks during the war!. He was born in Loudon county, Va!., 1739, and died in
Georgia, 1825!.
Upon his tomb at Greensborough is the epitaph "A Revolutionary Soldier, a friend of General Washington and an honest man!."

Many large libraries have copies of the DAR biographies!. Otherwise, you can contact them via internet at http://www!.dar!.org and request a copy of their biography on him!. There's some pretty extensive information about him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The National Archives would have George Washington's records!. It might be easier to find a book that might mention him with George!.
