My family has never told me where we come from and I would like to be able to share this with my children and also know for myself!. I don't have the money to pay for this and I really don't know much at all aboutmy family!. I do know my great grandfather and some of my great uncles and aunts along with my grandfather!. I am trying to search my father's side of the family tree first!. One setp at a time!. I want to know where we originated from and how my ancestors were before me!. Any help would be wonderful! this explains the process of researching your family!. You are right!.!.!. one step at a time, one person, one fact!. The info will not always be in one location!.!. you have to narrow things down so you can focus the search (ie death records for Dallas county, Tx for 1934, etc)!. YOU HAVE TO USE DOCUMENTS, which may or may not be online!. Those documents are what you build on!.!.grandpa's death certificate might be the only place to find the name(s) of his parents!. You can sometimes bypass this, IF persons know the info, but you then lose the idea of how to find info, when they DON'T know, or it isn't online!.
Genealogy is as free as any other hobby!. Meaning!.!. if you already have golf clubs in the garage, or find them at a yard sale!.!. then you don't have to buy them!. Ancestry!.com has all US census records (those are really needed), but there are ways to get around!. You can use your library (many subscribe)!.!. will that cost you MORE in gas and time!?
You can use a 3 ring binder and notebook paper (one page for each family group!.!. father/mother/ children), and the LDS site (www!.familsearch!.org) has a standard but solid, free program!.
NO WEB SITE is totally complete!. You will find many sites with "uploaded" family trees, and the further back you get, the better your odds!. Are they always right!?!? No!.!. they are only as good as the actual records that were used to compile them!. Too many persons believe that "I found a file online with my family" but have no experience to judge IF the info is good or not!.
One other site I suggest is www!.cyndislist!.com, since it gives you an idea of the thousands of sites that are out there!. No one can tell you which one is best for YOU!. Don't limit yourself to expecting the whole thing from any site!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For free!? I dont think so!. And Reunion!.com is not free !.!.!. to be able to connect w/ others and find out if they are searching you !.!.!. u have to do that !.!.!. same w/ classmates!.com Sorry i couldnt help u!. But i dont think there is one and if there is !.!.!. someone let me know as well!. :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

no, they all cost money because it takes time for the people to look through you family tree!. It is not a computer that does this it is people and that's why it cost money!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ancestry!.com will give you a free trial!. Then it costs after that!. B ut i find there free family tree program very helpful!. If you want to search public records it costs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try:

Oh, yes! I want it, and I want it now, and it must be free!. Does that about sum it up!? (I hope so, because that is what I always want!.!.!.)
You should start by asking all your living relatives about family history!. Then, armed with that information, you can go to your public library and check to see if it has a genealogy department!. Most do nowadays; also, don't forget to check at community colleges, universities, etc!. Our public library has both www!.ancestry!.com and www!.heritagequest!.com free for anyone to use (no library card required)!.
Another place to check out is any of the Mormon's Family History Centers!. They allow people to search for their family history (and, NO, they don't try to convert you)!.
A third option is one of the following websites:

Cyndi's has the most links to genealogy websites, whether ship's passenger lists, ancestors from Africa, ancestors from the Philippines, where ever and whatever!.

Of course, you may be successful by googling: "john doe, born 1620, plimouth, massachusetts" as an example!.

Good luck and have fun!

Check out this article on five great free genealogy websites:

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test!. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father!. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA!.
I used www!.familytreedna!.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program!.

Don't forget that no matter the source, there will be errors!. This applies to the late 20th century and so far this century, perhaps even more!. As the saying goes, "To err is human; to really foul up, you need a computer"!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
