The death record would be in the county of death!. The county coronor pronounces and provides some of the death information!.
The Austin American Statesman has a good archive and might have listed the death!.
With that said, since you aren't a relative you probably won't be able to get the death certificate!. I live in the next county over from UT and Texas passed a law that almost closed vital records, except those over 70 or 50 years old, to all except those of immediate family!.
Now I needed to find my Great Aunts burial place, for the family!. I filled out a form and sent it to the Texas Vital Statistics Office, and had to send a copy of my driver's license, with the fee!. I asked that if I couldn't get the death certificate could they just please let me know the cemetery she was buried in!. They send me the death certificate!. But then again, she was related!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If there is any record online, it would be an obituary!. Vital Records are protected information!. If you are not immediate family, you would have to wait 25 years under Texas law to obtain a death certificate!.

So you might check the Houston Chronicle website or if you know what town he was buried in in Louisiana, see if you can find the town's newspaper!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

YOU cannot get his death record!. It would be illegal for you to have it!. You can possibly get a copy of the obituary, but that is it!. ONLY immediate family members can legally get a copy of the death record / certificate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
