Just because you believe you have Native ancestry doesn't mean squat!. You have to be a member of a Federally Recognized Tribe or Nation to be eligible for any benefits!. And the only way to become a member of a Federally Recognized Tribe or Nation is if YOU prove you descend from someone on the base roll of the Tribe or Nation you believe your ancestors were in!.!. IE: If you wanted to become a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma you have to prove you descend from someone on the Dawes Roll!. Each Federally Recognized Tribe or Nation has this requirement and most have a blood quantum requirement as well!.

If you were a member of a Federally Recognized Tribe or Nation benefits would come from the Tribe or Nation you are a member of, not the US Government!. And the amount of benefits differs from "tribe" to "tribe"!. Contrary to many peoples beliefs we are NOT rolling in money!. Most members living on reservations live at below poverty level!.

And there are people that need the benefits much more than you probably do!. I would guess you are NOT living within the culture of your ancestors supposed "tribe"!. And you probably won't start living within that culture any time soon!.!.!.Right!?!?
So let someone who really needs the benefits get them!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to contact the Native Nation in which you mother's blood comes from!.
example: Cherokee Nation, Sioux Nation, etc!.
They will be able to provide you with the information that you need if you have enough information for them!. You will need to provide them with your mother's line where the Native blood comes from!. Were there any numbers issued to your mother's Native American relatives!? If so that will speed things along, but they do require a lot of information & it must be traceable!. Some tribes do not recognize people with less than 1/4 blood, so you need to contact the appropriate agencies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only way for you to be "eligible for benefits" is to become an enrolled member/citizen of a US Federally Recognized Tribe!. It is a persons CITIZENSHIP, not heritage, that qualifies one for programs reserved for American Indians!.

You need to do you geneaology on your mothers side, tracing her to her Native parent, to their Native parent and so on, until you end up at the 'original' Native in your family!. Determine which tribe that person was affiliated with and contact the modern-day government of that tribe!. They will let you know if your ancestor appears on their rolls and if so, the requirements for you to also become enrolled!. If your ancestor is not on the rolls then you have zero chance of becoming an enrolled member/citizen!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
