Question: Doing research on an old church - can someone make a suggestion!?
I am trying to find out some information, and possibly find some photographs, of a church in my community that was destroyed by fire sometime between 1965 and 1970!. I can't find any information about it online, and I want to avoid going to the library and sorting through five years worth of newspapers on microfiche!. I thought about talking to old-timers and asking the Historical Society!. Any suggestions about how to best go about this!? Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi, I've searched all over the internet as well!. Just a couple of suggestions:

1) Never underestimate the abilities of your local reference librarian!. He or she may be able to search a system index and walk you straight to the newspaper which contains the article you're looking for!. The Charleston County Public Library has an "Ask a Question" feature which lets you email or IM a Librarian online!. Here's the link: http://www!.ccpl!.org/content!.asp!?name=Sit!.!.!.

2!. Evidently the New Francis Brown Methodist Church doesn't have a website (which I thought might have had a "history" page), but they do have a phone # listed at this site: http://www!.superpages!.com/yellowpages/C-!.!.!. [the # is (843) 723-5987], surely the secretary or an older member or the pastor could help!.

3!. Once you find out the information, you might consider submitting it so others can find it online! Perhaps you could start by submitting it to this site: http://www!.kindredtrails!.com/SC_Charlest!.!.!.

I hope that helps at least a little!

Edit-
I may have found another possible contact for you!. Might the church have also been known as "Sons of Allen Francis Brown AME Church"!? If so, Google that phrase and you'll find a contact!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Contact the church office!.
The minister or the secretary may be able to help you or allow you to post a query in the church bulletin!.
Perhaps, a long-standing member will be able to pin-point the exact date the church burned, which would be of great help in locating the newspaper articles!.

Have you contacted the local newspaper!?
They should be able to search their archives faster than you can search thru the library's microfiche!.

Good luck with your project!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
