Question: Is it possible to find the name of an enumerator!. I am interested in the 1871 census, I would like to do this!?

The enumerator for the 1871 census for Priors Marsten Warwickshire was Richard Johnson, and the district number for Priors Marsten was 15!.

It is possible, but not online at Ancestry or any other website!. When the enumerators books were completed, the first few pages were full of instructions on how to complete the book and there was a space where the enumerator described the district that he was doing and which roads he went down in that area!. The enumerators name is usually on these sheets, but Ancestry aren't interested in these preliminary pages to each census district as they don't have any names on so can't be indexed!. The only place the full books with enumerators instructions have been microfilmed is either at your local County Record Office or main library (who will only have the 1871 census for their local area on microfilm) or at the National Archives in Kew (now that the FRC has closed its doors), again on microfilm, except they have the complete national set!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was an Enumerator for the census before last and was temporarily employed by the Home Office!. I don't understand why you might want the name of an Enumerator from the 1871 census, but you could try the website below!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
