All four of my grandparents were Ukrainian, and all of my relatives have brown hair, brown eyes, and olive skin!. I have light blonde hair (no I didn't dye it), blue eyes, and pale skin!. Why do I look so different from everyone else in my family!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Have you been able to verify all 8 gr grandparents!? or all 16 gr gr grandparents!? If not, you can't be certain that you DON'T have someone in ancient ancestry, who may be Scandinavian!. And!.!. it is kind of assuming (which does not work) that no one from the Ukraine, ever had blond hair or blue eyes!. Someone in your ancestry did have that coloring, or at least part of it!. I don't do genetics that much, but as I recall from what I did have to study!.!. that "light" coloring tends to be recessive, but it "pops out" randomly!. The darker coloring may be more frequent!.!. but does not mean that the genes are not still there, lurking!. I also tend to take research records as reliable!.!. but as one person here points out!.!. even those can be in error, since there have always been babies born, whose father isn't the husband, or whoever's name is on the birth certificate!. Please don't take that to suspect that gr grandma was fooling around!.!. but it isn't impossible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com As already been explained, people carry recessive genes that will not show up in their appearance but will in their children!. It is a toss up, how each child will look!. In some families, they all closely resemble and in some they don't!. I was born with red hair, blue eyes and a skin cancer type complexion!. I thought by looking in a mirror that my eyes were hazel but was told I was wrong!. Looked in another mirror where the light was different and yes they are blue!. I topped off at 5'6-1/4"!. I have lost an inch in my old age!. My older sister was born with black hair, hazel eyes and she tanned very well!. Her hair turned very blonde before she was a year and she was a tow head until she got a little older and it darkened some!. She topped off at 5'3!. My younger sister was born with black hair, brown eyes and tans very well!. Her hair also turned towheaded before she was a year and then during her first pregnancy turned dark brown!. She topped off at 5'2!. Now, it is funny how people think my older and my younger look alike based only on pigmentation!. Too many people think only in terms of pigmentation when thinking people look alike!. However, my younger sister and I have the same facial shape and we have our paternal grandmother's nose!. My older sister looked more like my mother's youngest sister than she did either of my parents!.
