Question: What would be the reason for someone being on the ENGLAND BMD register but not the 1901 census!?
We can trace my husbands grandfather's details on the BMD register to AUG 1900 , so why is he not on the 1901 census ( have checked Wales and Scotland also! )Www@QuestionHome@Com

The 1901 UK census was taken on Sunday 31st of March, so he should be on there some where!. The only way he wouldn't have been noted was if he was out of the country!. You say his dad was in the forces if his dad was stationed here in the UK then again both father and son would be on there somewhere!.
Has your grandad got a common name, have you got the right person!?, I would do another check if I were you or throw it open to the researchers here on the genealogy forum , we love a challenge!.
Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It could be the case that in 1901 your grandfathers, father got stationed abroad, and it could well be that the family went abroad too for a time!. This happened to distant relatives of mine way back!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Census occur on selected days or during periods of time!. As such if the family was traveling or other items occur you can be missed it is not uncommon in some countries!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A very young child could easily be missed in a census!. That could be the reason!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
