I am looking for any information on the following surnames:

Klyman
Yudkovsky (or Yudkowsky)
Turek (or Turik)
Appestoosky
Lison (I know its not the french variation)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
They're Polish!. Klyman and Yudkovsky (which literally translates to "the Jew's son") are both Jewish!. Turek an Appestoosky are Polish and most with those names who I find are Christian!. I went to school with several families named Turek BTW!. If you're related, it's a small world

Lison is probably an abbreviated European name!. Do more research on your ancestors before you make guesses!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The few persons found with the name Yudkovsky/Yudkowski were born in Russia or Lithuania!.
There is not a trace of anyone anywhere with the name Appestoosky!.

Turek:
Czech, Slovak, Polish, and Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): from the vocabulary word Turek ‘Turk’, either an ethnic name for a Turk or a nickname for someone who was thought to resemble a Turk in some way!.
Croatian (northern Croatia) and Slovenian: nickname for a refugee from the Turks in the 15th and 16th century, from the ethnic term Turek ‘Turk’!. Slovenian territory and the northern parts of present-day Croatia were a refuge for Christians from Bosnia when it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire, and from those parts of Croatia that were a war zone!. Refugees were thus not ethnic Turks, but Serbs and Croats from ‘Turkey’, i!.e!. the Ottoman Empire!.
Slovenian: perhaps also a nickname or occupational name from any of various plants named turek, e!.g!. a kind of flax or a mushroom of the genus Leccinium!.
Polish and Jewish (from Poland): habitational name from any of several places named Turek, in particular one in Konin voivodeship!.

Early Klyman immigrants were from Germany!.

There are Lisons from England, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Poland and Germany!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Klyman sounds German, but there are traces of the name being in England also!. Yudkowsky is Russian, and Appestoosky sounds Russian as well, but I couldn't find any information on the name!. Turek has origins from Austria, as well as Germany, Poland, and Hungary!. Lison has origins from Romania, Slovenia, Czechoslovakia, Russia, and Belgium!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
