Question: What does this surname mean!?

The name is Hyg, from Sweden!. It doesn't follow the -son and -dotter that is common in Sweden!. It all of a sudden starts with my GGGrandfather's generation!. before this generation, it was the -son and -dotter last names!. Why did it start and what does it mean!.

I can't vouch for Sweden, but in Norway a name other than a patronymic often indicates that the family were landowners!. Possibly your great-grandfather bought an estate and the family took its name from it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
