Question: If my great grandfather is also my great great uncle, what does that make me!?
He married a woman, had two daughters!. First wife dies, and then he marries HER sister!. Has two more daughters, one of which is my grandma!. So in a way, her father is also her uncle, so she is also her own cousin as well, correct!? And her two step sisters are also her cousins, right!? So what am I!? I get more and more confused as I keep thinking about all the different relationships people are to themselves!. Her step sisters are also cousins to themselves since their step mother is also their aunt!. Goodness this hurts my brain a little!. Makes me think of the song "I'm my own grandpa"!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Your Grandmother's relation to her father's first wife's girls are HER half sisters/cousins, not "step"!. They share almost identical DNA coming from same bloodlines!. Their mother (the first wife) still remains your Aunt!. Your grandmother's father IS her father, nothing else!. There can't be a branch identifying herself with another part of herself!. It doesn't work that way!. You have to look at what others are in relation to you, not of you to yourself!. And he's your "Great Grandfather, not your great great!. (only one great) Trust me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes you are correct, sort of!!. While the family lines might be a little muddled your Blood lines are not, so you are not at any extra risk of inherited disorders, a problem that can occur when say 1st Cousins get married,

I would get your self some descent Family Tree software and enter all the data you have then let it work out how you are related to the rest of your family!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are still YOU!.

However did you know that in the Church of England (Article 17) and other churches / religions a man may not marry his wife's sister!?
These were drawn up to prevent consanguinity!. Some of the laws have been relaxed and others were definitely flouted historically!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
