Native Americans could end up with some interesting names due to translation into english!.

There is a Lakota college!.You could try emailing, and asking if someone there could guide you to finding information!.

I'm not Native myself, but I have studied the Lakota!.
Oglala Lakota College put out a language course with Audio-Forum!.If you are ever interested in learning more about it!.
The tribe portrayed in "Dances with Wolves" are Lakota,if you want to hear the language spoken!.

There is a historical book on the tribe,"The Sioux" by Hassrick, from the University of Oklahoma press!.
I would also suggest "The Mystic Warriors of the Plains"by Thomas E!. Mails!.It's just an amazing book about the old life of the "buffalo days"!.

Everyone knows the Lakota for house: tipi (usually spelt "teepee")!. Indians can give you better advice; all I can suggest is, if you can't find any paper evidence, is to have a DNA test done!. I used www!.familytreedna!.com!. You need both the mtDNA (mother to mother) and the yDNA (father to father)!. Unfortunately, females cannot be tested directly for yDNA, but need a near male relative (i!.e!., father or brother) to submit the yDNA to be tested!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
