I just don't understand why there's an apostrophe if you haven't removed any letters, and if you HAVE removed letters, then why would you give that name to a child!? The only abbreviated name I could give to a kid would be Sam instead of Samuel!. But then, we don't have this sort of thing in England, so perhaps that's why it's so weird to me!.
